Open Cooling Tower
EMCC offers reliable machinery that meets high standards in design and material selection to ensure continuity in your production process.
Open cooling tower
An open cooling tower is a device that dissipates heat through direct contact between water and air. It is widely used in the cooling needs of industrial and commercial facilities. The working principle of an open cooling tower is to introduce hot water from the system into the tower, and sprinkle the water evenly on the packing layer through the spray system. At the same time, the air introduced by the fan or natural ventilation enters from the bottom or side of the tower and comes into direct contact with the water. In this process, the water evaporates and takes away the heat, thereby reducing the temperature of the water and achieving a cooling effect. The cooled water is then returned to the system for recycling.
EMCC can provide customers with industrial cooling towers of various structural forms such as counter-flow and cross-flow according to customer requirements and project conditions, through program analysis and screening and cooling tower special software optimization design. The frame can be made of various materials such as concrete, all-steel, and all-glass reinforced plastics. The cooling tower designed by EMCC adopts efficient thermal design and air flow field optimization, with high cooling performance, long service life, low cost, low energy consumption, small footprint, easy operation, simple maintenance, safety and reliability, low water quality requirements, strong regional adaptability, and is widely used in various industrial enterprises such as petrochemical, oil refining, chemical, coal chemical, fertilizer, electric power, and metallurgy.

Advantages and Challenges
Advantages
- Cost-effective: Open cooling towers operate with high energy efficiency, especially in areas with dry air and high temperatures, where evaporative cooling works best and can significantly reduce equipment cooling costs.
- Simple structure: Compared with closed or hybrid cooling towers, open cooling towers have a simpler structure, are easier to maintain and install, and have lower initial investment costs.
Challenges
- Water consumption: Due to the mechanism of evaporative cooling, open cooling towers consume a lot of water resources, especially in arid or water-scarce areas, where water restrictions may be faced.
- Water bleed and water quality issues: Water bleed not only wastes water resources, but also may cause water pollution problems. In addition, long-term circulation of water may cause dirt and microbial growth, affecting the efficiency and life of the cooling tower.
- Environmental impact: Open cooling towers bring water into the air through evaporation, which may cause increased humidity and affect the surrounding environment, especially in dense industrial areas.
