The open cooling tower uses circulating water to spray on the cooling tower filler, and heat exchange is achieved through the contact between water and air. The fan then drives the air flow in the tower to circulate, and the hot air flow after heat exchange with water is taken out, and then cooled; while the closed cooling tower uses the contact between water and coils, and heat transfer and heat exchange on the outer wall of the coil to take away the heat of the cooling medium in the coil to achieve the cooling purpose. The circulating water in the closed cooling tower only circulates inside the cooling tower, and the water supply pipe is properly replenished. Compared with the open cooling tower, the most significant feature of the closed cooling tower is the addition of coils. The liquid working medium to be cooled flows in the coil without direct contact with water, and heat is exchanged through the pipe wall.
Features of open cooling towers
Open cooling towers have the advantages of simple structure, low cost, and convenient maintenance. They are the most commonly used equipment in early cooling equipment. However, the fan motor and blades of the open cooling tower are exposed to the air, so the noise during operation is relatively loud; because it is an open system, the cooling tower will produce water drift during operation, resulting in water loss, and water must be replenished frequently. At the same time, it will also pollute the cooling water to a certain extent, causing the water quality to deteriorate, and external debris will also enter the cooling water, causing water pollution; the cooling water pressure loss of the open cooling tower is higher than that of the closed cooling tower.
Advantages of closed cooling towers
Closed cooling towers are fully closed circulation cooling, so there is no debris entering the cooling pipe system and causing pipe blockage. Closed cooling towers are soft water circulation cooling, and there is no scale generation at high temperatures to cause scaling of the cooling pipe system. Closed cooling towers occupy a small area, do not need to dig a pool, are easy to relocate, save water, and reduce energy consumption. Closed cooling towers use air cooling and evaporation heat absorption dual cooling methods, with high cooling efficiency; they can directly cool water, oil, alcohol, quenching liquid, brine and chemical liquids, etc. The medium has no loss and the composition is stable. Due to the use of closed circulation, the medium is not affected by the environment and will not pollute the environment. The pressure loss of cooling water is less than that of open cooling towers.
